This guide walks you through preparing your workspace and opening your first file in Fumidama.

Prepare a work folder

Create a folder on your computer for your work. For example, create a “Seminar planning” folder and put your proposal, notes, reference images, and PDFs in it.

Your Downloads or home folder may contain unrelated files. Use a dedicated folder containing only the files needed for this project. You will open it in Fumidama in a later step.

Set up your AI app

We recommend ChatGPT Work or Claude Cowork. Their desktop apps can work with files in a folder, allowing you to use the same files in your AI app and Fumidama.

Follow your chosen app’s official guide to install it and sign in, then grant it access to your work folder. Ask the AI to save Markdown files in that folder. If you receive files as downloads, move them into the work folder.

You can also use an AI you already know. Tools such as Codex and Claude Code can be used in the terminal.

Install Fumidama

Check the download page for an available download for your operating system, then install it and launch the app.

Fumidama is an alpha release. Features and behavior may change during development. Review the known issues as well.

Open the folder

  1. Select Open folder on the start screen.
  2. Select the work folder you prepared. For an existing Git repository, select its root folder.
  3. In Explorer on the left, select the Markdown file you want to open. If you do not have one yet, use the document creation action on a folder to create a file such as “proposal.md”.

Markdown is a way to write headings, lists, and other formatting in plain text. Files use the “.md” extension. For example:

# Seminar plan

- Set the objective
- Define the audience

Fumidama lets you edit while seeing how headings and lists appear. To learn the syntax, see the headings, lists, and links sections of GitHub’s official Markdown guide. See Supported Markdown for the formatting and limitations in Fumidama.
